French reporter kidnapped by jihadist rebels in north Mali


The chief of Reporters With out Borders says that French journalist Olivier Dubois was kidnapped April 8 whereas working in Mali’s northern metropolis of Gao.

A video was launched Wednesday that reveals Dubois saying he was kidnapped by the al-Qaida-linked group JNIM. Within the video, he calls on his household, buddies, and authorities to work for his launch. The video couldn’t be independently verified.

Reporters With out Borders chief Christophe Deloire confirmed the kidnapping to The Related Press and referred to as for the reporter’s launch.

Dubois was reporting in Gao in northern Mali and didn’t return to his resort after lunch on April 8, Deloire mentioned. Dubois often works for LePoint Afrique.

The French International Ministry confirmed his disappearance, saying they’re in contact along with his household and Malian authorities.

Mali has been in turmoil since a 2012 rebellion prompted mutinous troopers to overthrow the president. The facility vacuum that resulted in the end led to an Islamic insurgency and a French-led marketing campaign that ousted the jihadists from the cities they managed in northern Mali in 2013.
